Prop 8

I just wanted to say that I'm supporting Proposition 8. Yes--I'm worried about not alienating my friends that are homosexual. Yes--I'm worried about possibly getting discriminated against for my beliefs. Yes--I'm worried about people hating on me, but I feel like this important. It's so rare that the Church makes a statement on things like this, but they're raising this point on this issue because this issue has an affect on the overall morality of society. I can understand how this might be a difficult issue for some, and that the Church's involvement with it might be a difficult issue for some, but I believe that President Monson is a prophet of God, and that this is something that our generation can fight against and win.

On a lesser note, I don't think four judges should be able to overturn the popular vote of the voting constituency.

Considering that ProtectMarriage.com has decided NOT to appeal the ballot language, what chance do you really see for Prop 8 to pass? I just don't see a majority of Californians voting YES on a proposition titled ELIMINATES RIGHT OF SAME-SEX COUPLES TO MARRY.

Once the churches realize that Prop 8 is an almost guaranteed loser, are they going to do the right thing and let their members know? If not, what happens after Prop 8 loses by 40-60 (or worse), and then the members find out that the church leadership was privy all along to internal polling that predicted a crushing defeat? Do the members get their money back?

Or do they get stuck paying for ads that were run by a campaign that knew it was going to lose but ran them anyway!

Actually--the polls all have quite different results, depending on who conducted the polling. The polling that you seem to be referring to wasn't internal, btw--but has been publicized in various news outlets. Estimates range from 60% against to 54% in favor. I tend to believe it's the 54% in favor (especially since in 2000 Prop 22 passed with 61% of the vote). Anyway, to answer your question, I do believe that Californians will vote yes on Prop 8. I think that a majority of them believe that a legally recognized marriage should exist between a man and a woman, and I think that they feel that way for a lot of different reasons.
