Half Hour What?

Right so, I am a fairly geeky white kid with a questionable sense of rhythm. That being said, I do like to dance, and I like to dance to good music, AND I like to dance with no one watching me. going to all the normal parties with all the normal music turned out to be not very fulfilling, so some roommates and i started having a dance party every wednesday night for a half hour... to good music that we picked... with the lights off. it's been several months now, and it's grown in popularity. i think we've topped off at around 60 people. it may not sound like a lot, but it really packs our living room, so much so that there's almost no space left to dance.

we also noticed that more and more people we didn't know were showing up. they didn't always have the nicest demeanor, and tended to take up way more of the dance floor space than they needed to (mainly in efforts to get people to look at them, which is fine at most parties, but this one is all about letting your geeky self dance uninhibited, therefore no lights). in an effort to not be overtly exclusive, we decided to trick these people into thinking that we had permanently cancelled the dance party by changing the day. soooo, we told everyone we knew that the party for wednesday night had been cancelled. i showed up at my house tonight at 10, and was very surprised to find that 30 people had still shown up (only 2 of whom we knew). i was even more surprised to find out that they had just opened up the front door and come in. i was even more surprised that another roommate started playing music for them. i guess once you this ball has gotten started rolling, it's going to take quite a bit to stop it.

That was fun to read. It's so amazing meeting people you'd never meet otherwise over the internet. I'm curious where you live (don't worry, I'm not going to try to come to your party)...just curious in what part of the country you live. I belong to an online art group with over 2000 members. Would you like me to post your request for drawings of yourself on my group? I could have them go to the page on my blog to get the photo and then give them your email to send it to you.

Hey Jana
I would love it if you'd do that. Also, in an effort to make it a little bit easier to contribute (ie-not waiting on me to email a pic), I've just posted several reference pics of me in a post, and linked to the post via the "Please Read" section of my blog. Hopefully that'll make things a little easier.
