This is the album that I used to have on cassette. I say "used to have" because I played it over and over to bother my mother, so she finally took it. Now she has it. TURNS OUT THAT IT'S ON CD AND NOW IT'S ON MY COMPUTER! Tom Pease is the guy who played kids songs for us at Cumberland Elementary. He left us all screaming for more, and asking our parents to buy us a 'jew harp.' It wasn't bad to say 'jew harp' back then. Well, my moms not here to enjoy it, but my wife is, and BOY IS SHE ENJOYING IT! This and the Raffi album (Singable Songs for the Very Young) I just bought off iTunes. I CAN'T BELIEVE I REMEMBER ALL THESE WORDS TO THESE SONGS! And I wake up with them in my head in the mornings.

Pizza Pictures and Stories

So I work at a pizza place. When I started, I was really really bad at it. This picture was taken after I'd worked there for a month and a half. I've been there like 2 months now... Maybe a bit more, and guess what? I'm still not great at it. We're supposed to use these pans that are attached to long sticks to take pizzas out of the oven. It is difficult. Also, I'm not good at keeping track of a lot of pizzas at once. Also, different parts of the oven cook at different rates. It's kind of complicated, I promise... Anyway, ftr, I did end up eating this pizza.

My third day on the job, nine customers called and complained about burned pizza. They had the owner come and talk to me because I was doing so badly that they thought I was doing it on purpose. I was not. I was just really really bad at it. I'm really grateful, really really grateful that they did not, and have not fired me.

I like my job. I really do. I even liked today, when I had to get on a huge ladder and clean the fans after we'd closed. It was like it was snowing flour slash dust all over me. It was so thick that it was actually kind difficult to not breathe it in. Anyway, one part of my job that I really like is trying to balance pizza boxes and move them. I also like to fold pizza boxes. It's kind of this zen thing, this routine that you just do over and over, and it keeps your hands busy, but your mind kind of wanders. We have to stack them. I had a stack of 43 that I was trying to move...

Needless to say, I was not good at moving it. I spilled the boxes on Jorge, who was busy making pizzas. I am bad luck for Jorge. Later this day, he slipped on the floor that I wasn't yet done mopping and hurt his wrist. For a pizzamaker, wrists are a big deal.

Poor Jorge, on my second day of work, I was reaching into the oven to move pizzas, while he was reaching into the oven to put a pizza in there. I lifted up my paddle, which lifted his arm up into the oven. He didn't say anything about it at the time. I just asked him several days later "Geeeeze, that's a big scar, how'd you get that?" He was like "Oh, you did that to me." I felt like such a jerk. He still has a big scar on his bicep. Incidentally, karma semi came back to bite my butt, as I now have a matching scar. However, mine is fading rapidly, whereas Jorge's is not.

Here is a salad that I made. It's a caesar salad with a side of chicken and a side of avocado. I thought it was really funny that I did this, and forced the driver to wait for me to take a picture of it before I let him deliver it. He was already late, and did not think this was funny. Well, to him I have to say "Sorry, Vince." Also, I made a salad for Diane Lane the other day. My coworker was like, "That was Diane Lane." And I was like "Diane who?" I googled her though. My coworker should've said "Oh, Cherry Valance." Maaaan, I loved that movie. And Rumble Fish. And Judge Dredd... not.

Also, today someone told me that I look like Keith Haring, and I was like "Keith who?" She must've mistaken my genuine lack of artistic knowledge for offense, because she quickly said "But better looking! Better looking!" Anyway, I googled him. I'd forgotten who he was. He was this guy. While we are both skinny white guys with circular glasses and slightly higher than average hairlines, I'm going to say the resemblance ends there. Okay, maybe that is quite a resemblance though.

My friend Nahum was a LACMA member, so he took me. It was great. The most memorable part was when he was loudly loudly berating me for not agreeing that "Waiting For My Ruca" was the best Sublime song. Nahum really thinks it's funny to be loud and offensive, especially where it's not appropriate. For the most part, I kind of have to agree with him. He spent a lot of time that day negatively using swear words to describe art he didn't like... which was a lot of art. HOWEVER, at this particular time, we were walking, and several people were around us, including one lady who was kind of young, but older than us, and kind of dressed nice in a uniformy way (like a waitress). As I was telling Nahum to please be quiet, she turned around and said, to me, "He's right, you know. That is their best song." Oh, LA...

I don't know what this next picture was of... Aside from painted boomboxes. It didn't seem like it was a store or a gallery. I just liked it.

There was a killer in this neighborhood, so the police had locked off the street. People were lined up at the police tape waiting to get back into their houses, or waiting to leave the block. It was funny. You'd see kids walking up to the line and handing groceries to their mothers, who would then walk back to their houses and continue cooking. One guy walked up to the line, and somebody brought him out a suit, and then he left. I didn't really have anything to do that day, so I hung around and just watched for about an hour.

This was the bathroom of this one old warhouse type place that is solely used for film shoots. Apparently they really hate the fact that they're not supposed to park right outside of their own building, so they keep stealing the signs, and the city keeps putting them back up. I wonder how long this has been going on for...

I guess I probably should've expected to see this in the bathroom at a concert for a band called "And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead..." Long story. Anyway, not the band that I thought it was. You know how rock songs have like these crazy build ups for the most intense part, and there's a lot of cymbals? This band writes songs that are like 6 minutes long that are just that crazy build up part. And it's kind of lame.

This was actually taken on my way from LA to SLC right before Christmas. It was really interesting to see the whole sun set thing when you're totally up above the clouds. I felt like I could see the curve of the Earth.

Hawaii Pictures and Stories

I apologize for messing with everyone's google readers... It's just the way it had to be. Also, I'm not really that sorry...

Anyway, here's some pictures I've been meaning to get off my cell phone for awhile. While we were in Hawaii, we visited the BYUH library several times. We did this mainly to harass our friends who were there studying. Once, while we were there, Andy Pierce (he is in the picture, partially covered up by the cabinet) told us a great story. It was about a boy named Matt (I think) who was super super depressed, so he decided he was just going to find some hot girl and kiss her. So he went to the library. Once there, he identified a pretty girl (who he didn't know), and said to her "Hey, I have something to show you." As you will see in the below library there is a section where they store magazines or files or newspapers or something. He took her to this section and said, "Here it is," and opened one of the cabinets all the way up. It went all the way out to the other section. He looked at it and said, "Hmm, no, it must be this one," and then he turned around and fully opened another shelf, effectively enclosing them in a private little room. I'm a little fuzzy on the details at this point, but I'm pretty sure he said something like "You're hot, let's make out," and then they did. I think that is an awesome story. Even awesomer was that the girl was in the library, and Carter went over to her to verify the veracity (redundant!) of the story. Even funnier was that she was with some boy at the time, and I'm pretty sure she admitted to it. Also, it had happened just that day, like a few hours ago... Or maybe the day before, but no more time had passed than 24 hours.

About 4 and a half hours ago, I went to go take a shower. I remembered I had no soap, so I got dressed. I came downstairs and before going to the store, I checked my email. While checking email, I remembered that I hadn't listened to this album, so I listened to it. That reminded me that I hadn't written someone else an email back, so I did. Then Wynn reminded me that I hadn't posted something on this blog for awhile, so I did. I liked the album, and for some reasons was wearing vampire teeth, and I thought it was really funny. It was. I thought, "Hey, this is so funny, I want to make an animated GIF of that... How do I do that again?" I researched several different ways and then did it. It was funny too. Then I sent that to some of my friends. Then I went upstairs to use the bathroom. Then I saw that my towel was out, and I thought "Why didn't I put my towel back after I finished showering?" Then I remembered I didn't shower...

ANYWAY, here's one part of a good story -- I did end up kissing a girl last night. It wasn't at midnight, and it wasn't someone I knew. She walked by, and I just grabbed her and leaned in and kissed her. After I kissed her, she hit me and yelled, "I'm engaged!" Diversity, really? Our laws have always been founded on morality -- and what is morality if not religious in nature? Religion, in a very broad sense, is the acknowledgment of something more, of something greater, than just me... There are laws against killing and stealing and lying... These come to us from a religious morality--or should I not allow my religious belief that killing is wrong influence public policy? And now don't stereotype me into being in favor of the war, and then ask me about that killing--I don't think that was right either. Could it be that there are all types of Christians and even conservatives? People should vote as they feel on this issue, and it should be decided by the voice of the people--WHICHEVER way that decision goes."

Life As An Artist...?

I guess it starts with 2 things... First, quitting my job. I took care of this yesterday (well, I gave my 2 weeks). Second, move into a room that's about ten feet by ten feet (I go to look at the place tonight). According to the 'artist cycle' (think the pride cycle, but probably more pathetic), the next step apparently is "weeks of self-induced misery in an effort to 'inspire' ". That's supposed to be interspersed with "explosive, but short-lived, bursts of productivity as many new projects are launched, but never finished." Yeah, I think I can handle this...

When I first received your correspondence, my immediate reaction was thus... "What? Could it be? Might fate have steered my one true love to me? Have the stars finally aligned and has Heaven smiled upon me?"
